One of the things that we are called to do, as followers of Christ is to GROW UP in our thinking. We don’t have complete control over every thought that enters our mind, but we do have some measure of control over our thoughts and we have, therefore, some responsibility concerning our thoughts. “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”Rom.12:2

I was just having a conversation with one of my friends the other day about thoughts. He had said he didn't have any control over thoughts popping into his head and I told him that may be true, but once ignoring them or spending 20 minutes thinking more about them was definitely something we could control. Not sure he liked that point. :)
Yeah, there's a good possibility that he may not have liked the truth of that point.
