Our willingness matters

Diligence, hard work and responsibility are good values

I don’t know if my dad ever actually said these words, but this is the type of attitude he had. This thinking came across to me from him, even if he didn’t actually say it:

“If everyone would get busy and get to work they would have less time for griping and complaining. And if they all worked diligently every day they would be too worn out at the end of the day to get involved in a lot of nonsense.”

I realize that type of statement can come across as harsh and, as always, there will be people whose circumstances will mean they are exceptions to this type of approach. But the simple point is that he genuinely believed earnest, responsible work was a good thing for a person. It is in their best interests to be engaged in life in this way.

He was one of the most responsible, dependable, hard-working people I have ever known. So this wasn’t just a theory to him, this was the way he lived.

I still think there is a good bit of truth to this idea.

Explaining your posts to your grandchildren!

Wait a minute? The show is called "Dr. Pimple Popper?!?"

Rachel is watching a reality TV show that actually has this title: “Dr. Pimple Popper.”

When I asked her, “What kind of strange show is this?”

She replied, “It’s very satisfying.”

I honestly do not know for sure what she meant by that…it was a more sophisticated answer than I expected. But I laughed for about a minute when she said it.

Starting the car when it's 20 below zero!

I turned the key in the ignition and there was a hesitation. It was as if the car was saying, “You’re kidding, right?”

But then the engine turned over. It didn’t sound like it normally sounds when it starts…but it started, anyhow!

I’m not sure if that number on the lower left is clear in the photo but the temperature is -20 degrees. I’ve never seen that on the car thermometer before!

By the way, have I ever mentioned that I’m not a big fan of winter?

I have?

Okay, just checking.
