Do You Have Something Worth Living For?

“Voice of the Martyrs…contends that more Christ-followers have been killed for their faith in the last century than all previous centuries combined.” [Lucado]  When I read something like this, I wonder about the level of my commitment to Christ. Then I think about a comment I read years ago: “If you do not have something worth dying for, you probably do not have anything worth living for.”

My grandmother used to tell me "I love you more than life itself." I never could get a handle on that until I had Katie. For some reason I've always judged how much I love a person by whether I'd jump in front of a bullet for them.

Christ did that for us, so how could we not want to do that for Him? Although I realize that's much easier to think about when bullets aren't whizzing by you. I hope that if I was ever faced with that I would be able to live up to His love for me.

I've always thought that it would be hard to know what I would really do unless I was faced with the reality of such a situation. But I'm with you, Mary, you said it well: I hope I would be able to live up to His love for me.
