No doubt, looking for a way to avoid loving everyone, the expert in religious law asks Jesus for a little more specific feedback on this “love thy neighbor” business. He asks, “Who is my neighbor?” That’s when Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan. The gist of the story seems to be: anyone who needs love and mercy is a neighbor whom we should love.
