This blog contains comments and teaching regarding living the Christian faith and comments on the intersection of faith and many other aspects of life from pop culture to science. It also has some stories--hopefully they are amusing stories--from my life. ~Dan

Living The Unique Lives To Which God Has Called Us
It is an indisputable fact that there are aspects of
every single human being which make us completely unique. In other words, even
though this can come off sounding trite it is, nevertheless, true that you are one-of-a-kind.
For instance, no has had the exact same experiences you
have had.
No one has the same background as you.
No one else has your personality.
No one has interacted with the same mixture of people in
the same way as you.
No one else has the same combination of skills and
aptitudes.
No one else has the same way of viewing life as you.
So, we don’t have to do what everyone else does. We don’t
have to be what everyone else tries to be.
Since God went ahead and made us in this tremendously
unique way it would seem to follow He has a unique calling and purpose for our
lives. Our objective is to understand what God has for us to do and be obedient
to Him. If we are engaged in the unique life God has called us to then we will
be doing the right thing.
“For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in
Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Has God Given You A Dream?
God may give us a
dream that corresponds with His purpose for our lives. If the dream has
genuinely come from God please understand it may still be very difficult and
require effort, determination and endurance. The fact that a dream has come
from God does not mean it will be easy. In fact, if the dream has come from God
it is likely to require courage and will probably not be possible without His
help and power.
However, if the
dream has come from God it is important to respond by saying, “Yes, God!” And
pursue the dream.
You might say, “How do
I know if the dream has come from God?” Here are a few indicators:
The dream is not in
contradiction with God’s truths as found in scripture.
The dream helps
other people and is not just of value to you, personally.
The dream brings
glory to God.
You receive some
other type of confirmation regarding the dream beyond an initial impression or
leading.
Remember, if God has
given you a dream this is part of God’s calling for you and it is important to
pursue it.

Some Wise Advice I Was Given
When I was first trying to identify and understand my calling to ministry, my pastor gave me these wise words of advice: “If God has NOT called you to pastoral ministry but you go ahead and enter into it, you will be miserable. However, if God has called you to pastoral ministry, you will never find peace and joy doing anything else.”
