One of
our local grocery stores has a promotion in which game tickets are awarded to
customers when purchases are made. The larger the purchase the more game tickets
are given. Certain game tickets are “winners” which typically involves small
prizes.
Rachel
loves collecting the game tickets. I’m not even sure if we’ve ever won much of
anything playing this game, over the years. Perhaps some small items. But it’s
the game tickets that are part of the thrill for Rachel. Having lots of game
tickets is victory, all by itself, for her.
Today we
made a fairly large purchase so we received, probably, a dozen game tickets, or
more, when we checked out. In addition to that, Rachel had a winning ticket
which awarded two more game tickets. Ahh, so sweet! She had lots of tickets.
But then
as we were walking out the door, after the check-out, a woman saw that Rachel
was very excited about the game tickets. She approached us and held out about 7
or 8 tickets that she had just received after making her purchase.
She said,
“Are you playing the game?”
Rachel’s
eyes lit up.
I said, “Yes,
we are.”
The woman
offered her tickets to Rachel. “Here, you can have these. I’m not playing,” she
said.
We
thanked the woman for her kindness and generosity. As we drove home, Rachel was
beaming! She has hit the jackpot today!
