Really Good News

I have discovered that many people experience a sense of both joy and relief when they come to understand that authentic faith in God is not fundamentally about the legalistic observance and oppressive practice of religious rituals.

At a basic level knowing God is about an actual relationship with a being who knows us, loves us and is alive. And what is even more extraordinary is that this being happens to be the almighty creator and Lord of all things!

(I know this almost sounds too good to be true. That’s why it is referred to as good news! Really good news.)

These realities are what make it possible for us to enter into something much more than the routine exercise of rituals. Rather we can enter into the knowledge, truth and presence of God, himself, through the Lord Jesus Christ.

So… rejoice and be glad!

Jesus Means To Enlarge Life Not Diminish It

A number of people who reject Jesus do so because they believe being a follower of Christ will result in a life which is boring, bland, small, intellectually diminished, guilt-ridden and confined.

This sets up an interesting irony because Jesus, speaking of His followers, said this: “…I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

Bible expositors will, of course, debate the nuances of this verse but for sure it means Jesus is offering His followers a life which is full, challenging, interesting, meaningful, exciting, good and virtuous.

The mission of Jesus is not to decrease life but to enlarge it.

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

When Jesus Gives Life

Sometimes it’s hard for people to understand that Jesus gives life because they think they already have life.  But a person can be physically alive and at the same time be spiritually dead.  When Jesus claims to offer life to us He sees something more; something larger.  He sees what life could be for us if we trusted Him enough to let go of our insistence that we know more about life than He does.

Connected To The Life Giver

When Jesus says that we find life in him, He isn’t just talking about a beating heart and continued brain activity.  He’s talking about experiencing this existence with a kind of awareness and fullness that can only happen when we are connected to the Life Giver.

Saying "Yes" To Life!

Some people think Christianity is all about “No, no, no!”  “You can’t do this” and “you can’t do that.”  But actually Christianity is about saying yes to life.  Real life.  The fullness of life.  Abundant life!  Life in Christ, which is a life of goodness, truth and beauty.  There’s a divine drama that is unfolding.  I want to be in on it.
