We Can Choose Hope And Optimism

How we respond to the events of life matters. We can choose to respond with negativity and pessimism or we can choose to respond with hope and optimism. I understand there are certain sad and difficult events that will make a hopeful and optimistic response seem almost impossible. But even in these kinds of difficult situations it’s important for us to know that we still have a choice.

Our lives will be significantly impacted by these choices.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 15:35

Called To Be Humble

Over and over again, in the Bible we are called to be humble.

Some people have the idea that to be humble means that we put ourselves down and that we view ourselves as inept or unskilled.  The idea for some is that the more poorly we think of ourselves, the more humble we are.  But, those are not good and healthy attitudes to have about ourselves and those attitudes do not represent true humility.

True humility is to see ourselves honestly and to see God honestly.  We can put it this way:  True humility is to honestly understand who we are in light of who God is.

God Looks At The Inside

Our inclination is to look at the outside of a person.  We pay attention to their looks, what they wear, hairstyles, etc.  God looks at the inside.  He is concerned with thoughts, attitudes, motivations of the heart.  These inner qualities are more substantive and they reveal more significant truths about the person.
