Our persistent fear makes it seem that we don’t really believe God cares about us. I read this quote: “ordinary children today are more fearful than psychiatric patients were in the 1950s.” There’s a lot of FEAR going around these days. If God was right there walking next to us would we still be afraid? “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me.”

I had an incident happen outside our house the other night and was alarmed enough to call the police. After I got off the phone, I found myself very uneasy and almost called someone to come over. Then I thought, if I call someone to come over, I'm going to feel like I'm not trusting God to take care of me. Once I had that thought, I relaxed. Sometimes it's hard to fight the fear in the moment and you need to take a moment and think.
I can understand how children are fearful these days. So many of them are dying due to senseless violence. We just have to keep reminding them that God is watching out for them. It's a shame how much society has changed in a generation.
Terrific comment, Mary. I love hearing how a person's relationship with God can remove fear in real life situations. Thanks, Dan
